Our Feathered Friends

Virginia Lake and the Silver Lake are a stopping point for many birds going to different parts of the world.

Our Bird Watchers in the area reported that within the last week or so they have seen
Common Merganzers, Common Goldeye, Canadian Geese, Malards and as I look out the door of the chamber office I see lots and lots of Seagulls flying around and boy are they sqawking. There is still ice on Virginia Lake and a lot of the gulls are sitting there as if they are having a meeting. I like to walk around the Virginia Lake at lunch time and once in while I see a Bald Eagle soaring high over the lake. Wow what a magnificant sight to see. I like to go kayaking on the lakes in the summer and I get to see some of the birds up close.

In the past our local Bird Watchers have seen Northern Pintail (see below), American Wigernon, Green Wing Teal, Blue Teal, Mallard, Wood Duck, Black Mallard, Canvasbacks, Readhead, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Ringneck, Ruddy Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Northern Shofler, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Red Breasted Merganer, 3 species of Canada Geese, Snow Geese, Trumpter Swan, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Seagulls, Cornorants, Pelican, Terns and Loon.
